Mold in a MASSACHUSETTS Public Schools
In March of 2011, Dec-Tam received a call from the city of Lawrence to perform a thorough decontamination of a large public school. The city had a severe problem. They had a relatively new elementary school with 1,150 children that had been forced to close because of mold and sewage like odors in several areas of the building. It was discovered that there water infiltration throughout the building and as a result there was significant mold growth. The situation was so serious that the school was immediately closed and the students were relocated to alternative sites.
Dec-Tam worked closely with the City’s Environmental Engineer to develop a decontamination plan involving the removal of various types of building materials to access and clean all affected surfaces throughout the school. This included the cleaning of all interior duct systems and the repair of several plumbing systems to reduce the likelihood of future mold growth.
The two story project took approximately one month to finish. When the project was completed, the industrial hygienist hired by the school cleared the space for occupancy and the children were able to complete the year in the school they started in.
