Underground Storage Tank Removal, Westborough, MA
On this project, Dec-Tam was contracted to remove three 20,000 gallon underground storage tanks at a Westborough State Hospital during the day while the hospital was up and running.
The project seemed straight forward except that the tanks being removed still had 2,500 gallons of number 6 oil remaining in them. Before Dec-Tam could pull the tanks we needed to address the residual oil issues first. By utilizing a portable boiler, we were able to heat the left over oil and remove it with a vacuum truck. Next, our technicians entered and cleaned the tanks to bare steel using pressure washers. Finally, we were ready to excavate and extract the tanks. An 80 ton crane was brought into assist in the pulling of the tanks. The tanks were loaded onto low bed stretch trailers and brought to a Massachusetts Licensed Tank receiving facility.
