Selective Demolition and ABATEMENT at the hanover inn
Within the next month or so, Dec-Tam will be finishing up on site at the Hanover Inn in Hanover New Hampshire. For the past few months, Dec-Tam was on-site averaging 80 technicians working multiple shifts 5 to 6 days per week. The inn is undertaking a full renovation. They are adding 12,000 square feet to the property and converting existing office space into additional guest rooms. The inn's restaurant was also relocated during this project.
Working in conjunction with Engelberth Construction, Dec-Tam performed the selective demolition, asbestos abatement and decontamination, and the lead paint abatement components of this job. Once Dec-Tam and the general contractor reviewed the drawings and marked out the locations for removal, then abatement and demolition activities were performed at the Hanvoer Inn.
As you can see from the associated pictures we removed and disposed of:
- Gypsum wall board, ceilings, soffits and bathroom tiles
- Staircases
- Windows, doors and frames
- CMU partitions
- Patio pavers
- Roof membranes, fascia and trim
- Coolers, kitchen equipment
- Ceramic tile flooring
- Millwork and cabinetry
- Tubs, bathroom fixtures
- Lighting, acoustical ceiling tiles and grids
During the asbestos portion of the project we remediated and disposed of over:
- 140,000 square feet of Gypsum Wall board
- 60,000 square feet of floor tile and mastic
- 20,000 linear feet of pipe insulation and related fittings
A three chamber decon facility was installed at the entrance to each work areas constructed out of poly sheeting and PVC supports. All critical barriers at each work area location were sealed with two layers of 6 mil poly sheeting. Splash guards were installed to protect lower wall surfaces where chemical solvents were used to remove floor mastic. Negative air pressure was establish using HEPA filters to allow for proper air changes within the containment. These units were exhausted to the outside of the building.
Upon completion of the project, Dec-Tam will have removed approximately 350 tons of asbestos debris and 300 tons of general construction debris from the approximately 90,000 square foot existing building.
The Inn is expected to be reopen late Spring.
Dartmouth benefited from having Dec-Tam do both the environmental remediation and the selective demolition because they :
- Had greater buying power by negotiating one larger contract providing a variety of environmental services
- Spent less time on management and oversight.
- Maintained a tight construction schedule.
